![]() ![]() in 45 minutes. And at the end if needed you can use joint compound as a top skim coat. Now, you can apply 3-4 coats with this D-Mix. The longer working time that joint compound provides is well suited for skim coating or covering larger wall areas such as taped joints of newly installed drywall. I like option 3, but plaster cures so fast. Option 2 avoids that problem, but Durabond is not ideal for skim coat, at least not according to the manufacturer. Durabond OR JC (premixed) + Plaster of Paris (3/1 ratio) Option 1 is probably the easiest, but premix tends to shrink more than powder. Add some pva latex primer and becomes high tech. All dusts, loose and friable material must be removed, preferably by brush and/or vacuum before plastering / skimming. Spackling compound dries faster than joint compound and shrinks less, making it ideal for patching small to medium-size holes and dents in drywall or plaster. Joint Compound, premixed (Greed Lid) Durabond. ![]() Ie, the taped part is going to be at least a couple of mm higher - almost certainly more - so that needs feathering in gently to the boards on either side - I wouldn't recommend this for a 'house' job. What i say was.' if you mix joint compound with plaster paris and water ' This low tech mix is the best 'All in one and all purpose plaster. If you don't have a taper, tho', then it's a pain you'll need to feather in a band of filler so's it's nigh-on invisible when all sanded down. ![]() For a house, and where there are low-angle lights or viewing levels, then it'll probably need a bit more work to make perfect a little more filler and sanding etc. This would be perfectly good for a garage. The size of your room has the biggest impact on the cost of skim coating. You can also buy tubs of ready-mixed filler for this, so it's all clean and hassle-free. Its generally more affordable than the cost of drywall repair or full replacement. It can look ok provided you put the effort in, and it doesn't have to be hard - use the correct wide-bladed 'trowel' tool to bridge the tapers on both sides, and the bulk of the job is done. The advantage of taping and filling is that you can DIY it, assuming that you cannot also DIY a full skim. ![]()
